Yesterday Sucked

Yesterday was my 25th Birthday. I didn't really have high plans of doing anything too exciting, but I was looking forward to the day, because I'm not really the kind that dreads birthdays. Anyway, Nathan agreed to do Deacon's night-time feedings so I could catch up on some sleep since it was my special day. That was all well and good until Manning woke up at 5 AM and I really had gotten less sleep than normal because even though Nathan was taking care of Deacon the control-freak anxiety I have wouldn't let me relax and sleep through his feedings. So, Manning and I got up and played for awhile, but he was very fussy because he was still tired, so I ended up putting him down for a morning nap and going back to bed myself. A little while later Nathan woke me up with "I just got a horrible phone call. I can't leave until June 30th now."

A little back story- Most of you know that Nathan has been in the (ridiculously long) process of going full-time Army as an officer for well over a year now. SEVERAL months ago his school date was scheduled for April 30th. Because this would be only a few weeks after I'd be going back to work after maternity leave, and I'd still be in school (my last class goes a few weeks into May), I knew there was no way I could handle working 8-9 hours a day plus a 1 1/2 hour round-trip commute, being a single mom to a newborn and toddler and being a student we decided I'd stay home with the boys. Money would be tight, but it should be doable once he went to school. Out of consideration to my employer, I gave them the notice that I wouldn't be coming back because I knew that the nature of my job, it would really help them if I could train my replacement, and they'd been good to me, so I had no problem doing that. Anyway, the plan was Nathan would keep working his job at Lowe's, and he was going to work some 1/2 days at the Air Guard base to supplement our income through March. Lowe's had agreed he'd go back on a fixed schedule of 6a-2p Monday through Friday and he'd work at the Air Base from 2p-6p Monday through Friday for one month. In April he would work only at Lowe's until he left. This was great for one week in March, but then his schedule at Lowe's was not correct for the second week. Nathan talked to his manager and they basically said that he had to work the hours he was scheduled, which he couldn't because of his Air Guard commitment, or he would be considered a no-call, no-show. We talked about it and knew that it would be best if he went ahead and quit his job at Lowe's because he didn't want to show up as being "fired" from them for not coming in when he was pulling military duty. He made arrangements to do some temp-work for a friend in April until he left, and we thought everything would be fine.

SO- you can see our frustration when we received a phone call yesterday stating his orders are now being changed and he won't leave for another two months. Add to the fact that the longer he waits to leave, the longer until he gets home, we are waiting to sell our house because the boys and I cannot go with him to his school and we need a place to live, it has just turned into a huge waiting game and we are SO ready to move. We hate the town we live in and are ready to get on with our next step in life.

Anyway (I know this is poorly written and turning way longer than I intended), we spent most of yesterday stressing about this mess. Then my friend Jenn posted about the Revelation Song, one of my favorite worship songs that I have not listened to in a long time. I watched the YouTube video on her blog of Kari Jobe singing the song, and this prompted me to listen to the version on my iPod of Phillips, Craig & Dean singing it. As I listened several times yesterday, the words just reverberated in my soul. It's no coincidence that we also heard an amazing, heart-stirring sermon Sunday about how so many of us Christians are putting on a facade about how "Christian" we are. This paired with some other things in my personal life, I've just really felt convicted that I've got to not only say I have faith, and think I have faith, I have to truly place my trust in God for our future.

I feel like I'm rambling and a lot of this might not make sense, but I just had to put it out there. Yesterday sucked, but I know God put us in a sucky situation to test us and grow our faith in Him. I just pray we learn the lessons He is trying to teach us now and don't have to go through this again! :) I'm posting a video of the song as well as the lyrics. I'll bold the lyrics that spoke to me in particular.

The Revelation Song

Worthy is the,

Lamb who was slain

Holy, Holy, is He

Sing a new song, to Him who sits on

Heaven's Mercy Seat

[Repeat 2x]

(Chorus)

Holy, Holy, Holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was, and is, and is to come

With all creation I sing:

Praise to the King of Kings!

You are my everything,

And I will adore You…!

Yeah!

Clothed in rainbows, of living color

Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder

Blessing and honor, strength and

Glory and power be

To You the Only Wise King,

Yeah

(Chorus)

Holy, Holy, Holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah

With all creation I sing:

Praise to the King of Kings!

You are my everything,

And – I - will - adore You!

Yeah!

Filled with wonder,

Awestruck wonder

At the mention of Your Name

Jesus, Your Name is Power

Breath, and Living Water

Such a marvelous mystery

Yeah...

(Chorus)

Holy, Holy, Holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah

With all creation I sing:

Praise to the King of Kings!

You are my everything,

And – I - will - adore You!

Holy, Holy, Holy

Is the Lord God Almighty

Who was, and is, and is to come,

With all creation I sing:

Praise to the King of Kings!

You are my everything,

And – I - will - adore YOU…

(Chorus) (Repeat at a cappella)

Come up lift up His Name

To the King of Kings…

We will adore YOU Lord…

King of heaven and earth

King Jesus, King Jesus

Aleluya, aleluya, aleluya!

Majesty, awestruck Honor

And Power and Strength and Dominion

To You Lord,

To the King, to King

To the King of Glory
I'm praying that these words will be true for me. That Jesus will be my EVERYTHING and that I will ADORE Him. Pretty powerful stuff.

A to Z

I saw this on another blog, and thought it'd be a fun way to make a little post. My computer has been jacked up so I have not been able to upload Deacon's one month pictures or blog about them. Anyway, here goes!

A. Age: 25 (as of yesterday)

B. Bed size: Queen, but we really want/need a King. We are both tall (I'm 5'8" & Nathan is 6'3") and we both like to sleep with our knees out, so we'd really benefit from a wider bed.

C. Chore you dislike: Yes. Oh, you mean I'm supposed to pick one? Well, I'm not so great at doing chores, and I really hate them all, but the one I have grown to hate the most is laundry because it is NEVER ending, and time-consuming. I used to hate doing dishes the most, but now I realize that in about fifteen or twenty minutes a day they are done. Not laundry. NEVER ENDING.

D. Dogs: We used to have a Pug and a Boxer, but I ruined Nathan's life and insisted that it was more important our children could crawl on the floor without getting covered in dog hair, so we are dog-less.

E. Essential start to your day: Caffeine...I really, really need to get a coffee pot now that I'm a SAHM

F. Favorite color: PINK!

G. Gold or silver: I tend to prefer silver, but I really like gold too! :)

H. Height: 5′ 8"

I. Instruments you play(ed): I played the piano growing up, but I never dedicated the time to practice that it would take to be really good at it. I also played the clarinet and bass clarinet in band from 6th-9th grade.

J. Job title: Domestic Engineer

K. Kids: Manning Parker 16 Months and Deacon Andrew 1 Month

L. Live for ______: God, Family, Friends in that order

M. Most embarrassing moment: In 4th grade playing "blind tag" with friends I ran full-speed into the brick school building. Broke my tooth and my glasses, but luckily not my nose.

N. Nicknames: kiddo, coat, mama

O. Overnight hospital stays: two children's births

P. Pet peeves: Most of these are things Nathan does: clearing his throat/hocking drainage, scratching, shaking his leg, tapping his foot (Did I mention he has ADHD?). In general I also really dislike liars, and long fingernails on men.

Q. Quote from a movie: Nathan and I are always quoting movies. Right now our favorite is from Yo Gabba Gabba "Thanks for watching my worm babies, Muno." which isn't really that funny except to us, and in the right tone of voice.

S. Siblings: I have a younger sister Kourtnie and four younger brothers-in-law- Kourtnie's husband Gavin and Nathan's three brothers Ben, Trent and Tyler.

T. Time you wake up: whenever a child or husband forces me to.

U. University attended: I graduated from Missouri Western State University with my Bachelor's and in April I'll finish my MBA from Northwest Missouri State University.

V. Vegetables: I'm trying to do a better job of eating fresh veggies. Actually, I'm going to get some baby carrots as soon as I finish this post. So what if I'm chasing them down with pop? It's better than cookies chased down with pop!

W. What makes you run late: I really hate being late, and rarely am, but if I am it's most certainly not my fault. ;)

X. X-rays you’ve had: teeth and my bad back I think is it. I've never had a broken bone.

Y. Yummy food you make: Oh man, I like to bake yummy stuff like cookies and cakes...

Z. Zoo animal favorites: I'm not a huge fan of the zoo, but I am hoping we can take Manning before Nathan leaves in June. I mean, we will take Deacon too, but I think Manning might actually enjoy it. ;) If I had to choose I am always fascinated by the polar bears and by the monkeys.

Vlog

I explain everything in the video...

So, there ya have it. I didn't mean to be so serious, but I guess these were questions that I felt seriously about? haha

Did you make a blog answering these questions too? Link up below!

Handwriting & Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I've seen a handwriting meme floating around on several blogs I read, and I thought I'd participate. I think that handwriting is SO interesting and says a lot about a person. Mine says that I try to be neat, but fail. I also write really big, and FREQUENTLY hear about it from random people. Ha!

Here are the questions:
1. Your Name
2. Your blog URL
3. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
4. Your favorite quotation
5. Your favorite song
6. Your favorite musical artists
7. Anything else you'd like to say?
8. Tag people to participate

And, Happy St. Patrick's Day from the BeVelle family!

*Adorable St. Patrick's Day outfits provided by Manning & Deacon's FAVORITE Aunt Kourtnie*

**Kourtnie is their only Aunt, so it's okay for me to say that**

Manning 16 months

Manning had his 15 month well-baby appointment yesterday, but he actually turned 16 months today, so these are more accurately titled 16 month stats.

Height: 32" 75%

Weight: 25 pounds 12 ounces 70%

Head Circ: 19" 75%

We talked a lot at his appointment about his developmental level, and it dawned on me just how much he's grown and changed lately. He is SO much more like a toddler than a baby. One question the Dr. had was how many words he can say. I guessed around 25. When I got home and told Nathan that, he said there was no way that was accurate. His guess was more like 10.
Never one to easily accept being wrong, I made him sit down and make a list with me. I'll let you see who was right.

Mama
Dada
Eat
Down
Yeah
No
Dog
Duck
Bye
Hi
Snack
Scout
Hello
What
Huh
Nana
Eight
Three
Ow
Out
Touchdown
Monkey
Ball
Done
Phone

*Many of these words I'm sure ONLY Nathan and I understand, but he's saying them, so it counts in my opinion.*

He also signs eat, please, done, waves his hand over food if you say it's hot, waves hello and goodbye, and does the touchdown action that referees do.
Manning has developed such a little personality. He hugs and kisses WHEN he wants to, not when you want him to. He is always dancing and talking in a sing-song happy voice. He laughs and giggles at the silliest things. He loves playing peek-a-boo and cracks up every single time you say "There he is!" when he pulls his blanket off his face when he's "hiding". I could go on and on about how funny he is, but I won't. We love him so much, he is keeping us on our toes, and he definitely inherited his mama and dada's stubbornness. Good thing he's so dad gum cute!

Saturday Morning Scenes

Saturday Morning Scene

Katie at Loves of Life is doing a new linky party every Saturday morning, and I decided to participate. Manning started this Saturday bright and early at 5:30, but Deacon and I slept until about 7:30. Here are some images from our morning.

Deacon update

This post should have contained a bunch of funny and cute two week pictures of Deacon wearing my favorite outfit...but as I uploaded them into iPhoto, it said delete originals from card, and as I clicked yes my laptop froze for the first time ever, my pictures deleted from the memory card but didn't show up in iPhoto...

So, sorry Deacon, the 2nd child curse is already coming true because you're two weeks old and the blog has yet to feature any pictures since your birth. Speaking of, for awhile I've been meaning to start backing up all of my photos somewhere because they're currently all just saved to my MacBook and I'll be devastated to lose them! Any suggestions? I'd like to back them up online possibly in two places. Is that necessary or is one website reliable enough to be my sole backup plan?

Today I took Deacon to his first well-baby check-up appointment. I normally take pictures at the well-baby checks, but before the Dr. even came into the room Deacon managed to pee all over the place (and our favorite nurse) TWICE, so I was a little distracted and didn't get any pictures taken.

At two weeks and two days these are Deacon's stats:

Height: 21 1/2 inches 80-85%
Weight: 8 lb 2 oz 35-40%
Head Circumference: 14 3/4" 55%

His birth stats:

Height: 20 1/2 inches
Weight: 7 lb 6 oz
Head Circumference: 14"

Deacon has been having terrible GERD, which Manning had as well, so that's made him sort of miserable every time he eats. He's a very well-behaved, happy baby other than when he's in pain. Today we got a prescription for Zantac, and I'm going to make a chiropractor appointment for him tomorrow so hopefully he will be in less pain soon!

Show Us Your Life- My Family

I don't participate in link-ups very often, but my family is the thing I'm most proud of and grateful for, so I couldn't resist participating in Kelly's Show Us Your Family link-up today!

I know I blog about my kids a lot, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to give you some background information about my family!

I guess I'll tell you a bit about myself first. I'm 24 (almost 25) and until recently, I was employed in Advertising Sales. I'm currently in my last semester as an MBA student, and now I'm a stay-at-home mama! I'm not sure how long I'll stay home with the kids, or what I'll use my Master's degree for, but I'm confident God has a plan!

This is my handsome, hardworking husband Nathan. Currently he is working full-time in retail, but he's in the process of going from Air National Guard to full-time Army as an officer. He is leaving in April for his Officer Candidate School. We started dating when I was a Senior in high school, and he was my first boyfriend. I could not have been more blessed with a better husband and father to our kids. He hasn't always had an easy life and had to work very hard for everything he has, but it's definitely shaped him into the person, and especially into the father he is today. I am so proud and privileged to be his wife.

This is our oldest son, Manning Parker, who was born 11-15-09. You read about him on here all of the time, so I won't say much, but we love being his parents!

And this is our newest blessing, Deacon Andrew, born 2-22-11. At just a week and a half old, he has already become such an important part of our lives and we can't imagine life without him.

Now, the family who made me who I am today, but rarely appears on the blog. These are my parents, Sherry & Nolan. They were both born and raised in my hometown and have always lived there. My mom is the County Clerk where I'm from, and her favorite hobby is making cards, scrapbooks and cookbooks. She also enjoys shopping and decorating her home. My dad has worked for the same electrical company as a lineman since I was a baby, and he is now the foreman on his truck. He likes football, old movies and mowing the yard. ha! My parents have been married for 25 years and have been an example to me about how even when marriage is hard, it's permanent.

This is my younger (and only) sister Kourtnie and her husband Gavin. They were married this summer. They live in Savannah, Georgia. Kourtnie is a student at Armstrong Atlantic University, and she enjoys shopping and hanging out on the beach. Gavin is in the Army full-time and works very hard to support their little family. He deploys frequently, and we are so proud of him. In the middle you can see their little gremlin, I mean puppy, Lucy. She is slightly spoiled and enjoys showing off her four foot vertical jump.

My in-laws are also a very important part of our family. I don't want to ramble on forever, so I'll sum it up quickly. Nathan is the oldest of four boys in his family. His younger brother Ben is in the Army, and his brother Trent leaves in April for Basic Training. His youngest brother is Tyler, and he is a Freshman in High School. His mom and step-dad still live and work in our hometown also. His mom, Lori, is a Director of Nurses at a local retirement village, and his step-dad, Jeff, works at a local factory.

As you can see, we are very blessed. We both come from huge extended families and I could spend hours going on and on about how wonderful our families are and how much they mean to us, but I'll spare you.

Thanks for stopping by!

2 on 2

One of my favorite bloggers, Steph, takes a group picture of her kids on the same day every single month, and I always love seeing their little personalities grow and change every month. I knew that when Deacon was born it was something I wanted to make an effort to do every month. I remembered last night while I was in the shower (does anyone else do their best thinking in there?) and I thought that since I remembered and today was the 2nd of the month, I'll start doing a picture of my 2 every 2nd of the month. If anyone is interested in linking up, let me know and I'll start doing a linky, but until then, here's our first edition of "2 on 2". This is also Manning's first time holding his new brother!

And, I know that this doesn't really qualify as just my two children, but after we had taken these pictures this morning I took Deacon back from Manning. Manning reached his hands up towards Deacon, telling me that he wanted to keep holding him. Melt. My. Heart. So, Nathan (who had been standing there ready to catch Deacon if Manning didn't want to hold him any more) held Manning and Manning held Deacon and my heart was so full it almost burst.
