Several of you left comments on my last post wanting to know the details about Nathan coming home and about my job, and I plan to share more about that soon, but I wanted to talk to you about something else first.
Keys.
Do y'all think keys are like the most stressful freaking thing in the whole world? While Nathan was gone I made him leave his extra key to my car with me so that I wouldn't have to call a locksmith if I locked my keys in my car. Every morning I was checking at least three times to make sure I had my keys before I locked the door as I walked out. Anytime I would get the boys out of the car to run into a store or church I'd check and double check that I put my keys in my purse and my purse on my arm before I got out of the car. It made me feel mildly paranoid. I'm sure people thought I was an idiot digging through my purse in my car just to make sure I had stuck the keys in there.
One night, at a going away party for friends in what we call around here "the boonies" aka out on a dirt road in someone's field, I went to leave about 1 AM, and realized my keys were locked in my car. This was kind of a big deal given that it was 40 minutes round-trip to the nearest town, and that most locksmiths don't really appreciate 1 AM phone calls. About an hour and $100 later, I was on my way.
You can imagine my relief when I met Nathan in Arizona and I was no longer solely responsible for entering/exiting our house, cars etc. I thought my days of worrying about keys were over...until the second day on my job when our facilities manager handed me my new keys to the building. And, holy overwhelming, my armpits started sweating. Three keys allow me in and around our entire huge building. Then he looks at me and says, "Now, try not to lose these because if you do we have to get the whole building re-keyed."
Do you all know how much pressure that is for a girl? So far, this is the most stressful part of my new job, but ugh. I hate keys. Luckily, I have a cute little key fob to put them on. Nothing like a little accessory to make something miserable into something fun. Color coordinated braces rubber bands anybody?

Agree! I check about a 1000 times a day! Luckily, I never lock the car without the fob, but still! I have a routine and as I put the kids in the carseats, I put my keys/phone in the cup holders in the back seat (mine are in the door). So, I usually know where they are when I hop in the drivers side w/o them!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have a set for our restaurant... I hardly take them out of the house! Lol! Too much pressure!
